CHARACTERISTICS
This D.O. occupies an area of 175,000 hectares, although only 1,500 pertain to the vines suitable for Uclés wines. Wines with this certification can only be obtained from grapes of the following red varieties: Cencibel (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Garnacha Tinta (Grenache).
AREA OF PRODUCTION
Located in the Souther Meseta, the D.O. is made up of the vineyards situated in the east of the Cuenca province and the northeast of the Toledo province. From Cuenca, the municipalities included are: El Acebrón, Alcázar del Rey, Almendros, Belinchón, Carrascosa del Campo, Fuente de Pedro Naharro, Horcajo de Santiago, Huelves, Huete, Langa, Loranca del Campo, Paredes, Pozorrubio, Rozalén del Monte, Saelices, Tarancón, Torrubia del Campo, Tribaldos, Uclés, Valparaiso de Arriba, Valparaíso de Abajo, Vellisca, Villamyaor de Santiago, Villarrubio and Zarza de Tajo. From Toledo: Cabezamesada, Corral de Almaguer and Santa Cruz de la Zarza.
The area has altitudes ranging from 500 to 800 meters in the western half and between 600 and 1200 meters in the eastern half, both parts separated by the Altomira Sierra.
