Dominating the shore of the Záncara River, its four circular turrets and its square floor plan exemplify the evolution characteristic of medieval fortresses, with large tower keeps, towards walled enclosures prepared to resist the incipient use of artillery.
HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
We can still see its four circular towers, reinforcing the corners of its walled compound. It was constructed between the 14th and 15th centuries.
The fortress is accessed via the steep streets that lead to the ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes (Chapel of Our Lady of the Fountains).
In the same town the company Quesos Villajero makes cheeses of the Denominación de Origin La Mancha, and it has earned numerous international awards praising the quality of their products.
