It holds a large collection of altarpieces and paintings by El Greco, since it was the anon Don Diego del Castillo who brought the Cretan painter to Spain, with this order. The building was originally from the 11th century, and founded by Alfonso VI, as the first monastery authorized within the walls of the city, it was refurbished in 1577 with a renascent Mannerist style.
