The Colegiata and San Bartolomé Church is located in the upper part of a hill, in front of the ancient village and it is the most important religious building of Belmonte, with Gothic-Renaissance style, the best church in this style of Castilla-La Mancha.
Indoors, of large dimensions, there are three chapels, an excellent choir, many altarpieces, grilles and art works in sculptures and imaginaries, pieces of gold work, paintings made with fabrics and canvas from 16th to 18th centuries. Fray Luis de León was baptized in its holly pile. An organ from 18th century is still used in special occasions. The Major Altarpiece is another important point of interest as well as four niches made of alabaster, Marqués de Villena’s family sepulchers and prayer figures which surround the graves.
The museum keeps a Sacred Art collection, where are remarkable the gold workpieces, the paintings made in fabrics and those from 16th to 18th centuries.
