The Lace Local Museum, in the main square’s heart, emerge as a public award to a craftwork from Almagro and some villages of Campo de Calatrava for hundreds of years.
In 19th century, Almagro became the reference of the national lace. The lace is the most delicate exquisiteness of the bobbin lace from silk threads.
The museum offers a historic tour through the different techniques of bobbin lace, very traditional in Almagro. A craftwork tradition which passes from mothers to daughters since time immemorial. Veils, fans and handkerchiefs, “picaos”, “bretones”, stretches, of round arch or guipur variety, with drawings of flowers and animals. Silk, thread laces, linen, wool or cotton laces. A collection of samples for all tastes. The famous “Mantillas de Almagro”, since 19th century until our days.
To contemplate the sample, another section in this museum is dedicated to the tools which they made the works with: pincushions, “picaos”, bobbins, etc.
