Alcázar del Rey is located to the West of the province of Cuenca, just 63 km following the road N-400 that connects Toledo with Cuenca. Its main attraction to visit is the church of Saint Dominic of Silos, which forms part of the National Heritage for its great architectural value. The construction of this Renaissance building spanned the 15th and 16th centuries. The interior offers the visitor three masonry naves with a trapezoidal room shape. Its last restoration was in 2003.
WHAT WE’LL SEE
The tower of the church, crenellated in the last section, originally belonged to a defensive construction with Arab origin, which gives the town its name “Alcázar”. Its two facades have semicircular arches, the Southern one better preserved. During the Civil War, in addition to being used as the headquarters of the Republican militiaman, the church lost its Baroque altarpiece and statues, and all the historical records of the municipality.
ACCESS
