MAIN ATTRACTIONS
The ancient castle, now remodeled as a library, allows the visitor an attractive passage among books.
HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
Nothing better than enjoying theplaza mayor(main square) of Carcelén, seeing as it is the ancient patio of this very castle. In the plaza, the Tower Keep maintains its ancient entryway and battlements, faithfully transmitting its military spirit.
The history of the castle goes hand in hand with that of Carcelén (the town), which was a hamlet of Almansa after the Christian conquest, passed to the Council of Jorquera and later to the diocese of Cartagena. Long disputed, it was Alfonso of Aragón who returned the territorial and jurisdictional rights to the town.
