The woollen gate
VisitCalle Plafox
Of the church of San Juan, one of the oldest churches in Cuenca, only the tower survives. The tower of San Juan is just like that of Santo Domingo, isolated by its surroundings and its purpose.
Further down, one of the openings in the wall today takes its name, although there are legends that say that it used to be called Al-Jara, the shearer and that is how Alfonso VIII and his knights, covered in sheep’s skin, crossed this doorway and gained access to the city in order to conquest it.
